Dame Bear

Great choice of mountains to ski each day via bus (Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein are linked and regular buses to Dorfgastein and Sportgastein along the valley). Mixture of tree lined runs and above tree line in Sportgastein. Banging apres ski at the Silver Bullet and Haeggbloms in town, more sedate on the slopes. Not recommended for beginners or early novices as slopes are dominated by reds. Not recommended for non skiers, the town is pretty dead. Great long runs and modern lift system. Lift pass not cheap though, reflecting investment in lifts. Very popular with Scandinavian crowd which means cheap beer is hard to find.
