If you decide to spend your winter vacation in the Mölltal, you may choose between the different ski areas Ankogel and Mölltaler glacier. Both can offer a huge variety of pistes for all levels of difficulty and are considered to be very snow reliable because of their altitude. The 3122 m high Mölltaler glacier can be easily reached with the underground skyride “Gletscher Express”. The ski season is long because of the very good snow conditions. In the middle of the winter the snow sometimes piles up several meters on the glacier. The ski area Ankogel may be reached with the skyride starting in Mallnitz. The ski area Ankogel is well-known for the good quality of the pistes and reaches up to an altitude of 2636 m. Two skiing schools are situated close to the valley station in Mallnitz. The “Waterslide Contest” takes place every February in Mallnitz where snowboarders try to glide over a 30 metres long water basin from a snowy ramp. But the Mölltal has also offers for cross-country skiers: lots of kilometres of cross-country ski runs and the view on the over 3000 metres high summits of the Hohe Tauern.
