I went early August specifically to ski. At this time the vast majority go for hiking and scenery. It really is a beautiful place with very modern lifts and gondolas. In Winter and Spring I can imagine the skiing is great. But in August it was 70-80% ice. The snow , where it did exist was still decent , but it was a rare find. So my hopes of late Summer skiing were deflated. It probably is great through early July but it's really not skiable year round. All that said, I will try to go back. It's a wonderful and unique place and the drive through the Austrian countryside can't be beat.

Fun place with year round snow!
One of the best glaciers in Tirol, because the Hintertuxer Ski area has also difficult slopes in comparison to other glaciers what are mainly very flat. The lifts are very modern and they bring you very quick up on the mountain. Normally you also do not have to wait long at the lift because the people are well distributed over the whole skiing area. You have an incredible view from the top of the mountains. It seems that you can see every mountain of Tirol. The landscape is very beautiful therefore skiing makes much more fun.
The slopes up there are incredible. It seems that they are never ending. If you would go from the top to the bottom of the area you have to go over 2000m of altitude. The slopes are in very good conditions, perfect snow, very bright, endless and steep. Of course you also have to do some easier runs but I would not advise this area for beginners. Additionally the area has lots of freeride space, some very special runs.
I usually go to the glacier at the beginning and the end of the season when the other areas are closed. At this time they also have a good park over there. Unfortunately after a day on the glacier après ski possibilities are only some, but Mayrhofen and Lahnersbach are very near where you can party all the night.
