The snow is exceptional with plenty of options when it comes to ski runs. However the après ski isn’t excellent and the night life is rubbish. I recommend staying in Altenmacht and skiing in Zauchensee to get the best of both worlds.

What a wonderful ski resort. The best of Austria. Our hotel was located in the middle of two ski lifts and provided great service. The indoor pool was A1. We have three kids and they refused to leave. I've been skiing for three years and the slopes are a joy to run. Easy to get to from Salzburg.
Zauchensee is just one hour from Salzburg and offers easy access to the Amade ski region. Most of the hotels in Zauchensee are ski-in/ski-out and are 4 star. The village is ideal for families as there is no through traffic, and all the facilities are within very easy walking distances, eg; just 20 meters from the Hotel Zauchenseehof to the Roskopf gondola station. or 30 meters from the Hotel Salzburgerhof to the Unterbergriedl 4 person chairlift. Nightlife is very limited with the Almbar offering the main late night action. Overall this resort is ideal for families and must be one of the most family convenient resorts in the European Alps.
