Superbagnere is a 10 minute Gondola ride up from the centre of Bagneres-de-Luchon.
Luchon is a superb little spa resort town, absolutely perfect for any accompanying non-skiiers. Everybody should visit the Thermal Baths, brilliant for respiratory problems such as sinus, and cut into the mountain.
We were there in March and the town was warm and clear of snow, but after rising 1100 meters in the Gondola, the resort is a stunning sight.
It’s small by European standards, about 28km (18 miles), but as there are many trees, there actually is this length of pistes (some resorts seem to count a wide trail as 3 different trails).
There was a nice variety of trails, plenty of decent blues and reds and some very difficult looking blacks. Also, unusually for a smaller resort, several long green runs.
Many of the pistes are wide with stunning views of the surrounding mountain peaks, but there were also some lovely tree lined runs down to the lake (sorry, it’s a pond!).
Superbagneres can also easily be combined with the resort of Peyragudes (bigger, but not tree lined and full of wide cruising pistes). There is even a free bus shuttle running from the center of Luchon to Peyragudes and back.
With a car, you can also drive for a change to Baquiera- Beret in Spain with its 120km of trails.
The Gondola link from the town centre of Luchon to Superbagneres is superb, but it is also possible to drive, about 19km of hairpin bends.
Prices are a shadow of the Alps.
