I've been going to BKK since 2013, and will be going again this winter 2016/17. BKK is not as well known (to the British at least) as the Tyrol. However, in many ways, the facilities and skiing is better. There are two excellent spas. Not cheap, but top quality and very clean. The pistes are not as busy as is it can be in the Tyrol. The resort is well known by the Italians, Germans, Austrians (obviously) and the Slovenians. Apre ski is not as lively as some of the Tyrolean resorts, so this makes BKK, a more suitable family, skiing holiday experience.
The restaurants are good, with varied menus. The prices are also more reasonable. You will pay approximately 25% less for food and drink than in the UK. There are expensive restaurants if required. Accommodation is extremely varied, and ranges from high end quality hotels to B&B's (Gasthof's), self catering apartments (good for families on a budget) to small family hotels. The scenery is superb, and a short drive up the valley takes you to St Oswald, which provides further skiing on the same ski-pass.
Hiring a car from Salzburg airport and you will be there in 1 hour 45 minutes. From Ljubilinia airport in Slovenia 1 hour 25 minutes.
skied here like 2 years ago.
it was a beast.
coming back this year.
snow was ace, well...good enough, and we only had one day out of 18 where we hadn't had fresh snow.
best resort i went to that year and will hopefuly be again this year
I was skiing here last week 10/2-16/2/07. There's enough snow to happily ski anywhere, most of the runs are open but the 2nd part of the gondala lift was shut due to high winds a couple of days. The conditions can be very icy patches, moguls and 2-3 inches of powder in places on some of the tougher runs. On the sunnier days the well used routes start to become slushy in the afternoon. But all in all a nice resort with fantastic views, routes and people. A hot dog costs 2-50.
