If you are looking for a weekend break in Switzerland for some reasonably priced intermediate skiing, this is a good choice. The town is pleasant with good amenities, and you are only a couple of hours away from Basel and Zurich by car or train. With many runs over 2000 metres you are also pretty sure of snow, and there are cannons on some of the middle runs to ensure the competent transportation system is accessible. Although there are runs all the way down to Meiringen, you will be lucky to find the runs open on these lower slopes for much of the season, but there is also accommodation further up the mountain in the smaller communities of Hasliberg, Wasserwendi and Reuti. There are better resorts in the Bernese Oberland, but that is what makes this such a good weekend choice if you want to avoid the crowds and high prices.
We have skied here for 15 years. It is wonderful: The people, the snow, the trails, the lifts, and the prices. No discos (that we know of) but very friendly and welcoming atmosphere all around. An undiscovered treasure.
