Together, Neukirchen am Grossvenediger and Bramberg am Wildkogel form the Wildkogel Arena. This snowy ski area with modern lifts at over 2,000 meters in elevation guarantees fun on the slopes from December until after Easter. With 85 percent red- and blue-rated pistes, the Wildkogel Arena is actually an ideal destination for beginners, families, and skiers returning to the sport of a hiatus.
Families really appreciate the Wildkogel Arena, especially because of 61 piste kilometers, 85 percent of which are rated either blue or red, and the sense you can always keep your bearings and never feel lost in the crowd. Absolutely every family member is certain to discover a hill destined to become their own personal favorite, a place where they can enjoy their skiing experience at their own preferred pace. And whenever the time is right, everyone can easily meet up again on the mountain. Ski instructors from local ski schools tell us that, in a setting as ideal as this, even complete newbies can pick up basic techniques in just about three days. Our littlest “aces” are able to practice their first turns during kids’ courses offered at ski schools in Neukirchen and Bramberg. Located right next to the two mountain lift stations are the children’s areas, where mascots Kogel-Mogel and Kogel-Mia make it even easier for the kids to learn. The Wildkogel Lifts’ scenic mountain restaurant is also the site of a guest kindergarten and a kids’ restaurant.
In addition to skiing, sledding also plays a big role during wintertime in the Wildkogel Arena. Hardly any wonder, since we boast the longest floodlit toboggan run in the world! Your expedition will lead you on a 14 kilometer ride dropping 1300 meters from the Wildkogel all the way to Bramberg. It will take you anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes to complete, depending on your ability. Nighttime sledding is also on the program 3 days a week (Tue + Fri in Bramberg, Sat in Neukirchen), with the toboggan run lit up on each of those days until 10 p.m. This fantastic sledding course from the Wildkogel isn’t the only one in the region, of course: On 3 other family-friendly hills (Neuhaus, Stockenbaum and Kühnreit), big & small are guaranteed to enjoy a memorable high-speed adventure.
Guests more in the mood to experience the gentler side of winter may want to join one of the guided winter walks or snowshoe hikes led by National Park rangers, or perhaps take part in a bit of wildlife-watching. Cross-country skiing, horse-drawn sleigh rides and so much more add to the opportunities available. And afterwards, cozy huts and inns – up on the mountain and back in the valley – invite you to stop in, warm up, and enjoy some well-deserved refreshments.
