Where is the snow today?
We’re back with our weekly ‘Where is the snow today?’ report, published each Saturday.
Based on current reports from ski areas and snow conditions, here’s where you’re most likely to find the deepest powder right now:
Val d’isere (1850-1606m) is in great shape right now after 60cm of snow this week. The snow pack is now over two metres (119-204cm) and the resort is boasting powder conditions. Terrain is nearly 100% open with 71/74 runs open and 35/38 lifts running.
Recent storms have brought fresh snow to Val d’Isère, so the powder is excellent, particularly in off-piste areas. Expect good powder conditions, especially in areas like La Face and Le Fornet, which are less groomed and offer a great mix of terrain for off-piste lovers.
Piste Conditions: The groomed slopes are in great shape, offering well-maintained, soft snow. Popular areas like the Grande Motte glacier, Solaise, and Bellevarde are all in excellent condition, with smooth, enjoyable runs for skiers and snowboarders.
Off-Piste: If you’re into off-piste skiing, Le Fornet and the Col de l’Iseran areas are great for fresh tracks. Val d’Isère has a reputation for excellent powder conditions in its off-piste areas, and right now is no exception.
Aletsch Arena (1845-2869m) has had a whopping 119cm of snowfall this week and conditions now sit at 103cm at the base and 130cm at the summit. The slope conditions are reported as powder and 100% of lifts are open (35/35).
Recent storms have deposited a good amount of fresh snow in Aletsch Arena and on the Aletsch Glacier. Powder conditions are especially good in areas like Fiescheralp, Riederalp, and Mittelaletsch, offering plenty of fresh tracks for off-piste enthusiasts.
Piste conditions: The groomed slopes are in great shape, offering soft and well-maintained runs across the entire ski area. The resort’s mix of sunny, sheltered runs and stunning panoramic views makes for a beautiful experience on the slopes. Aletsch is less crowded compared to the more famous Swiss resorts, which means you’ll get to enjoy the snow without the large crowds.
Off-piste: Aletsch Arena is well known for its off-piste opportunities, especially around the Fiescher Glacier and Aletsch Glacier regions. Fresh powder in the backcountry is abundant, making this a good time for advanced skiers who want to explore the off-piste terrain. However, always be mindful of avalanche risks and check local reports for safety.
Cervinia-Breuil has seen 50cm of snow this week nudging its snow pack a little closer to the two metre mark, with 100-185cm. Powder conditions are the order of the day and 100% of pistes are open and 15/16 lifts running.
Recent Snowfall: You’ll find excellent powder conditions in Cervinia right now, especially at higher altitudes. Powder conditions are especially good on Plan Maison and Theodulo Glacier.
Piste Conditions: The groomed slopes are in great shape, offering soft, well-maintained runs. Thanks to its high elevation (the Matterhorn Glacier is at 3,883 meters), Cervinia has reliable snow coverage throughout the season, and the pistes are in excellent condition. Popular runs like the Ventina (a long, scenic red run) are in fantastic shape.
Off-Piste: The off-piste conditions are excellent, especially around the glacier areas, including the Theodulo Glacier area, which is a popular spot for powder. The fresh snow from the recent storms has set up some exciting opportunities for off-piste skiers. Be sure to check avalanche risks before heading out to the backcountry.
Cervinia’s connection to Zermatt means you can ski across the border into Switzerland, further expanding the options for snow and terrain. It’s especially popular with those looking for higher-altitude skiing, thanks to the glacier.
