A ski resort's overall star rating displayed here is not calculated based on a simple average but takes several factors, including the age of a review, into account.
I love this ski resort, with the Slovenian side open as well. It's perfect both for me (intermediate) and my son and husband (very advanced). There are two long red slopes from the top of the cabin to the bottom. There are a couple of blue slopes as well as another red one (my personal favorite) from the top of the second cabin which takes you to Slovenia. On the Slovenian side there are slopes with view to the sea - mainly red ones. Loads of off-piste options and countless of ski-tour routes. Real hidden jam.

I, my wife and two kids (aged 15 and 11) skied at Sella Nevea - Kanin from December 20-30 of 2017. They had a lot of snow then so the skiing was good. In fact, they had to close the gondola for half a day due to an almost 2 foot snowfall while we were there. Coming from the US we found it to be surprisingly affordable. We stayed at Refugio Julia which is an historic Inn a short walk to the lift. The staff there were excellent and the food and drink were good and inexpensive for a resort area. Lift tickets were about $55 per day for adults and ski / snowboard rental was very reasonable. There are 2-3 restaurants in the village; enough variety for a 7-10 day stay.
The biggest problem was the lack of beginner and intermediate runs. In fact, the main runs from the gondola back down to the base are fairly steep but well groomed; I had to walk and carry my daughter's skis down the steepest part. The only beginner slope, besides the bunny hill at the base, is a short run in a bowl at the top of the first gondola. Sella Nevea is a fairly long drive from the closest major airports but once you get there you really feel like you've gotten away from the mainstream. It was never too crowded even during their peak time (Christmas to New Year). I highly recommend it for an affordable, out of the way ski vacation.
